Wow, three months later and mamasurfs is back online! Huge props to papa who in the midst of never ending work, late nights and sickness pulled an all nighter to fix this site and give mama back her happy place
So where do we start? Last time I blogged was back in January and I left you all hanging with the most adorable birthday invitation you’ve ever seen (ok, i’m a bit biased since hubby made it)!
Should we jump back in with a full review of the birthday bash?
As you may recall the theme was a full on circus and on the invitation each guest was asked to dress accordingly. We had so much fun pulling together all of the little details, and even more fun trying on the different costumes grandma and grandpa brought from the dress up bin back in California. If you’ve ever met hubby you might have taken him for a quiet, shy guy but after seeing these photos you’ll know the truth…dudes a freak and loves to fly his freak flag loud and proud when given the opportunity!
They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and I’m beginning to think that statement is pretty accurate. Most toddlers would turn, run and cry when they saw something so big, bright and crazy running their way. Not my boy, oh no…he just grabbed a wig and joined the party!
With so much color, excitement, fun food, such a beautiful setting and outgoing group of friends and family the party was nothing short of incredible. Thank you so much to everyone who helped us pull off this wild circus and for those of you who helped celebrate our little man whether you were near or far! And now, pictures from the big day!
The birthday boy himself dressed up as the Ring Master! My mom made him his adorable jacket and we ordered his bow tie and vest onesie from
Etsy.
We tried to keep the food within the circus theme and had a popcorn machine, nacho station, hot dogs, kale salad, fruit salad in ice cream cones and some cute veggie shot glasses with ranch dressing. Everything was prepared “grab and go” style!
One of my favorite details from the party was our photo net. Hubby and I went through over a 100 different photos pulling our favorites from throughout the year. We tried to choose pictures that showed Harper’s personality and as you know, this kid has had quite the year!
The dessert table was another one of my favorite details of the party. My mom scored these great table cloths for my baby shower (which was also circus themed…full circle huh?) and so we used them to bring some color and whimsy to the table. I made the cupcakes and with the help of these adorable
toppers loved how they turned out. We used different shaped vases I scored at goodwill as candy dishes and supplied goodie bags to fill as party favors.
We decorated the house and yard with loads of balloons and brightly colored pom-poms also from Etsy. The yard was full of games like ring toss, ball throw, fishing and different areas like the “maze” of tunnels, and the baby play area.
As costumed guests filled in, the space became even more “decorated” and the excitement was contagious! Soon we had a house full of mimes, animals, snake charmers, dare devils, clowns and one very happy birthday boy!
The party was a huge success but my favorite part? At the end after most of our guests had left we took Harper out for his most favorite thing in the whole wide world…a bike ride! This bike ride was like no other, our family of three had transformed into a flashy zebra, a fortune teller and one very content Ring Master. With balloons tied to the backs of our bikes and memories from the day filling our minds we raced down the hill towards the beach and enjoyed the last few moments of sunset together.
