“Autumn is a second spring when every flower is a leaf.”
-unknown
With crisp leaves beneath our feet and proper fall attire (flannel shirts and denim jeans) we gathered with friends and embarked on what has become mama’s favorite fall time tradition– hay rides, corn on the cob and pumpkin picking at Avila Barn. Despite the unusually warm California weather we drank up as much “autumn” as we could, sipping on freshly pressed apple cider and took every opportunity to stop, pose for pictures and soak in the wonderful colors of this time of year.
Orange, speckled green, knotted, twisted, oddly shaped, brown, white, black and red…Harper stared off into the overflowing bins of the seasons fruits, reaching out and inspecting each with great detail and care.
With legs dangling over the side of a rickety old trailer we made our way through dust, twists and bumps towards the pumpkin patch. With each turn we made my excitement grew and as the bright pumpkins came into view I held Harper a little tighter. Taking a deep dusty inhale I froze time, I was “in the moment” locking away every detail into the treasure chest in my heart.
.
Glowing like the jewel of a pumpkin she is, Harper made a beeline for this baby and began his typical “what is this thing” investigation. It goes a little something like this: climb, lick, bite, bang head against, repeat.
Other than completely losing my mind while stuck in a claustrophobic corn maze (see Jaime I’m not always brave) the day was absolutely perfect. Really though can you go wrong with two handsome dudes, great friends, fall goodness and some sweet roasted corn…yeah I didn’t think so!
Happy Fall everyone!
I wish you many days of crunchy leaves, hot chocolate afternoons, cuddling by the fire and counting your blessings!
